CURRENT EVENTS Our team was notified this afternoon (27 Aug) that we are being reassigned from Winona, Mn to Mansfield, Oh. Team will depart Fayetteville on Tue morning (28th Aug), stopping in Manchester, TN. to pick up Duck River team members. We anticipate a 8-9 hour trip to reach Mansfield. Initial contact with the Ohio White Cap indicated we could be assigned the job of doing damage assessment in the Mansfield area.
On July 29th, 30 men and women from William Carey Baptist Association along with 20 from Duck River Association left Fayetteville to travel to Gulfport Mississippi to assist in TBC's ongoing effort to rebuild homes in Pass Christian Mississippi. Churches in the Association that took part in this trip included Flintville FBC, Kelly's Creek, Prospect, Kirkland and Maranatha. Gum Springs Baptist Church was also represented. The team was housed at Robinson Road Baptist Church, Gulfport, Mississippi. Morning and evening meals was cooked at Robinson Road while noon meals consisted of sandwiches and snacks.
While in Mississippi, the team started two new homes One home saw the foundation post set, floor joists installed and the sub-floor put in. The second home also got the outer walls up. While this work was going on, other team members were wiring two homes, installing windows and attic access ladders in two other homes. Some members were sanding sheet-rock and doing some plumbing work. Most of the week spent in Ms. there were up to 6 job sites going on at any one time.
The Team returned to Fayetteville sat, Aug 4th, tired and at the same time asking when could we return. Another trip is in the works. It has been proposed that we return to Gulfport, Ms for the purpose of drying in the two homes that we started. The dates that are available to us at Robinson Road would be 14-20 Oct. At this time, this date is not locked in. We would be open to suggestions if another date will work better.
It has been suggested for us to accomplish this job we would need a minimum of 12 volunteers. That will allow for work to be going on at the Railroad St. and St. Paul St. house simultaneously. The team will in no way be limited to 12, but since we would be putting on the roofs, we would need at least that many that don't mind working from that height. Since we are winding down the budget year at the association, we will not have the money for transportation that we had for the July Trip. It has been suggested that we car pool or share rides and each help out with gas money. Anyone interested in going, please let me know at the earliest so I can make arrangements with Robinson Road.
